I hope you all heard the "Your Beautiful Child" podcast interview on which I was a guest, thanks to podcast host and local treasure Shane Kulman. Here's what Shane has to say about the benefits of Yoga for children with disabilities.
"Children and adults exhibit frustration when they cannot express themselves, which stops all learning and communication processes. [I] naturally began incorporating [my] own knowledge of yoga and sensory experiences into the children's therapy sessions. All children, and especially children on the Autism spectrum, with ADD, ADHD and any learning disability, are drawn to the body movements of yoga, and attracted to the sensory experiences that made them 'feel' good. The breathing exercises get the children's attention and calm them, in turn they are able to attend to tasks for longer periods and communicated in understanding ways."
